Merry Christmas (a little late)

I hope everyone had a great Christmas, and enjoyed spending time with family and eating lots of non-nutritious food.  I have been away from my blog for most of December, but I am planning to get back to posting photos here.  To all five of my regular readers- sorry for the lack of posts lately.  :) 
For now, here is a fun picture I took a couple weeks ago.

Christmas photos of furry friends

Today was "Picture Your Pet With Santa" day at Dupont Veterinary Clinic, and it was such a great time!  I loved doing this for two reasons:
 1- it is so different from what I usually do,  a fun step away from the ordinary.
2- I love seeing all the breeds of dogs!  There was such a variety today- everything from Great Danes to Chihuahuas.

days at home

Just a few pictures from around home today.  I am so thankful for days of not leaving home at all, being comfy in my sweatpants, spending time with my little brother, and the relief that comes from turning in my last big projects for the semester. 

Here's some of the little guy from today.  I was trying to teach him how to put on his socks, and he was in a mischievous giggly mood and wasn't paying any attention, so I gave up and pulled out the camera. 

And then I got this:  the classic cheesy smile.  All the photos I have taken of this child in his 3 years of life have now led to a classic case of cheesy smiles when the camera is out.  I will be battling this for about the next 10 years (at least).  : )  He's pretty cute though, cheesiness and all. 



I caught this one, too.  I just love that face, with his long eyelashes and crooked teeth. 

This is where I was parked for about 3 weeks leading up to thanksgiving.  I was glad when it got cold enough for hot chocolate and a fire to make studying little more fun.

I have been working on a new knitting project.  I can't tell you what it is just yet, but I'll post pictures when I can.   Mom, Jenna and I are also all working on scarves, mine's the orange one in the picture.  I've been teaching my mom and my aunt how to knit.  There's just nothing like learning to knit to make you feel really klutzy- I remember it well.  : )  One mistake and everything is unravelling.

Here's my kitty.  I let her come in the house on a cold day, and she slept all afternoon on my bed.  She's getting to be an old lady of a cat, she'll be 11 in the spring.

  Jonathan and I put up some of the living room Christmas decorations the other day.  He loves Christmas lights.  Whenever he sees a house decorated he yells "CHIRSTMAS, I see Christmas!!!"

My poor blog has been neglected lately...I've been studying, writing papers, and more studying.
Today I took a break and did no school at all!  :)  The end of the semester is in sight, and I am looking forward to celebrating Thanksgiving with family next week. 
Jonathan and I went for a walk today.  He was happy flying his toy plane and protecting us from aliens, and I was happy to be outside with my camera. 

Changes for next year

Two changes for 2011:

1- I am so excited to announce that I am now officially booking weddings for 2011.  The funny thing is, I was always SO sure that I would never ever want to photograph weddings.  Ever.  I thought it would be too stressful, too much work.  But I have grown in my confidence and skill as a photographer, and I feel that I have something unique to offer.  I had the opportunity to photograph a dear friend's wedding this past summer, and I loved it!  I have posted a portfolio of the work I did for them under the "weddings" section at the top of the page.  Oh- one more piece of good news- pricing will be discounted for the 2011 season (since this is my first season doing weddings).  Send me an email if you are interested!

2- Pricing for regular portrait sessions will be going up beginning in January (I will post the changes once I have them set).  There are lots of factors affecting this price change, including equipment upgrades, becoming a more experienced photographer, and umm.. my pricing has pretty much not changed since I started this whole photography thing.  When this began, I was a high school student who loved her camera and wanted to become better at photography.  I'm beginning to move beyond that stage into being a professional photographer rather than a hobbyist.  Thanks so much to everyone who has supported me from the very beginning, photography has been a great adventure for me and I can't wait to see how God continues to use it in the future. 

E. Family

It was a perfect evening for pictures yesterday, and I had so much fun meeting and photographing this family!  And get this- they even brought guitars to use in the photos.  I just wrote in my last post about how much I love it when my clients bring an instrument to the photoshoot  : )  And their kids were adorable.  The curly hair on the little guy, big brother wearing his cowboy hat and boots-  they just don't come much cuter than that!

3- I think somewhere in my subconscious, I just really like the guitar in photos. I am drawn to those ones the most of all the pictures from your session. Could all my seniors please learn to play the guitar before their session?? Or just pretend? : )

N. Family

What a fun evening with a beautiful family!
For awhile now, I have wanted to incorporate a quilt into one of my family sessions. Only, I didn't have a quilt to use. Literally about 20 minutes before I needed to be at the photo shoot today, I thought to stop and see if my grandma had a quilt that would work. When I asked if she had any, she said no. I checked the closet anyway, just in case. The one I found in there was perfect. It is so little used that she forgot she had it. Made my day. I get a little excited about good photo props.
This family was so relaxed, and the kids are so fun and sweet. I'm just going to warn you now, I picked out lots of photos for this post. : )

 

Brian's Senior Photos

This photoshoot began with me accidentally dropping my lens cap through the space in the boards on this bridge, into the river below.  Thankfully, we were not over the middle of the river, and I was able to retrieve the cap with a branch.  Things got better from there.  :)
